Stated at the outset: California Registered Agent.ai publishes this comparison and holds a commercial stake in one of the two services it examines. Bizee's figures are drawn from their own published pricing.

The Bundle Is Legitimate Value

Bizee includes registered agent service at no charge for three to twelve months with an LLC formation package, the duration determined by tier. For a buyer already forming through Bizee, that is a genuine reduction in first-year outlay with no penalty structure attached that our review could identify. Treating it as a marketing gimmick would misstate what it is.

The Rate on the Other Side Is $149

Standalone, and on expiry of the included period, the service is $149 per year. Published, stable, and more transparent than several competitors manage.

The exposure is not in the rate. It is in the transition. Three variables combine badly: the end date is set by package tier rather than by any anniversary a buyer would naturally remember, the charge processes against a stored card, and $149 is small enough to clear a bank statement review without triggering a question. The result is a price nobody re-evaluated because nobody noticed the moment for re-evaluation had arrived.

Two items are worth confirming while the included period is still running. One: the precise expiry date, retrievable from the order confirmation rather than inferred from the formation date. Two: which address currently occupies the agent field of your entity record, because that address moves whenever the agent does, and rushed formations sometimes leave a founder's home address sitting in the public file.

That second item carries more weight in California than in most jurisdictions. State law treats the two categories of eligible agent differently on the public record: a resident individual is listed at their California street address, while a corporation qualified under Corp. Code § 1505 has no address shown in the filing at all. Whether your home is visible in the state's entity search therefore depends on which category is sitting in that field today, and the answer takes about a minute to check.

The rate contains no promotional phase, so nothing lapses out of it. Documents served at our California address are scanned that day and posted to the portal with an email notification. Your public record shows a compliant California street address. Statement of Information reminders arrive ahead of the biennial window as part of the service. $15 an item buys scanning of ordinary correspondence; that is the whole of the extras list.

Accuracy first: BetterLegal advertises $90, below our figure. Ninety-nine dollars sits among the lowest published California rates, without an expiry date attached to it.

Leaving Before the Bundle Expires Costs the State Nothing

California prices the move at zero if you keep it clear of a scheduled filing period, which removes the usual reason to wait until the first invoice lands. The mechanism is unusual and worth knowing: no change of agent form exists here, so the replacement is recorded on a Statement of Information filed again from scratch, which for a limited liability company means Form LLC-12, submitted at bizfileOnline with the new agent's name and California address entered. Reporting the change on its own carries no fee; folding it into your scheduled biennial statement carries only the ordinary $20.

Enrollment precedes the filing, both because the designation has to be maintained without interruption and because the form has no way of accepting a submission that lacks the new agent's name and California address. A switch executed a month before the included window closes costs exactly what a switch executed afterward would. Our California change of agent guide covers the steps.
